My 1000 days in business have been a combination of every emotion possible - to celebrate reaching this milestone here are some reflections.

By the time you get to your year-end review, you probably will have forgotten some of your achievements from the beginning of the year. Imagine what it's like for your manager, who has several people reporting to her - she has probably forgotten everything except what you did in the last few weeks - so if you have screwed up recently, that's what she will have in mind. So what does this mean for you if you want to get the best out of your year-end performance review?

I love TED talks and this year I have been developing some online course work focussing on managing your career like a business. Part of the course work covers our limiting beliefs and unspoken assumptions around ourselves and our careers. In researching this topic these are 7 of my favourite TED talks that I have watched! If I had known in 2015 that I would be where I am right now, I would have just laughed and said: "not possible - other people make those sorts of changes but not me, I am not brave enough". At the time I was in a complete comfort zone. I was in a senior and safe position - I wasn't unhappy, but I wasn't feeling fulfilled either. There are over 740 million people on LinkedIn worldwide. Even if half of them are active, that’s a lot of potential for networking across geographic regions, time zones, industries and levels of expertise. No matter what time of day or night, there is activity happening in real-time on LinkedIn, and the best way for me to conceptualise LinkedIn, is as a 24/7/365 networking event, conference or workshop.

I don't know how many people I have written off in my life because of communication styles. I know it's probably a lot though. I suspect I have been written off by a lot of people for the same reason. We all fall into conversation traps that can cause us to misunderstand and disconnect from each other.
